Picture of the Villa

Rent this villa on the beautiful North Coast of Jamaica starting from $650 U.S. per week.

We are also renting a small one bedroom studio for $400 U.S. per week

Location

Bougain-Villa is situated in a secluded area right near the centre of the historic town of Falmouth. Falmouth is on the famous North Coast of Jamaica about 32 Kilometers (20 miles) east of Montego Bay Airport and about 72 Kilometers (45 miles) west of Ocho Rios. The villa is about half an hour's drive from Montego Bay Airport.

Features

The villa has two bedrooms and two bathrooms, a living/dining area, an enclosed patio area and a good sized kitchen. It has hot and cold water, fridge, stove and electric washing machine. The Cook/Housekeeper Ethlyn is part of the arrangements, and she will look after the cooking and keeping the house clean.

The property is almost an acre in size with 100 meters (300 feet) of private beach. It is surrounded by a 5 to 8 feet high stone wall on the land/road side thus providing a high degree of privacy during your stay. You are within walking distance of the local shops and market, yet far enough away to avoid the noises associated with the hustle and bustle of the local environment.

The landscaping can best be described as primitive and rustic with several trees, bushes and plants typical of the subtropical environment of Jamaica. The beach is well suited for swimming, with a long gentle slope suitable also for children. If you venture too far out, you will encounter sea grass/weed - just ease up and float or swim.

There is a "12 foot" aluminum boat with a 9 HP outboard motor. This boat and motor is available for use only by experienced boaters or you may contact Willy the Fisherman, who can take you around in the boat for a price that Willy will quote you. There is also windsurfing nearby at Bounty Bay, where Brian and his staff will be happy to rent you the newest in windsurfing equipment.

We also have a studio for rent. It is 400 sq. feet and has one small bedroom, a small sitting area and a kitchenette with a new gas stove and fridge. Perfect for 1 person or a couple. It is located on the same property as the villa so it shares all the outside amenities of the villa.

Attractions

Jamaica has several attractions just waiting for you (your vacation in Jah can never be long enough!)

Starfish Hotel

This hotel is 5 to 8 minutes drive further east on the main highway. Please be aware that it is an all inclusive hotel, and the security guard at the gate will only let you in if you arrange entry with the front desk office for the purpose of shopping or otherwise use the hotel facilities.

Montego Bay

If you drive to Montego Bay you will find hotels such as Rose Hall, Ritz Carlton and Half Moon before you get to Montego Bay. Once you are in Montego Bay, just explore the city and you will find something. You may wish to go swimming at Doctor's Cave Beach, a beach of long time fame.

Ocho Rios

You can take a drive to Ocho Rios where you will find a large Arts & Craft Market with an abundance of local crafts. Bargain with the vendors to get some good deals. While in Ocho Rios, have lunch or dinner at the Ruin's Restaurant which has one of the most impressive settings anywhere.

Ocho Rios and Dunn's River Falls

Take a drive one day to Ocho Rios. A few miles before Ocho Rios you will see the famous Dunn's River Falls. Stop there and climb the falls. There are large Arts & Craft markets in Dunn's River and in Ocho Rios with lots of local crafts to be found. Bargain with the vendors to get some good deals. Visit The Ruin's Restaurant in Ocho Rios with one of the most impressive settings anywhere. Try to avoid Ocho Rios and Dunn's River Falls on days when one or more cruise ships are in town. It can get rather crowded.

Fern Gully

Just outside Ocho Rios is Fern Gully, which is an old river bed converted to a main road between Ocho Rios and Kingston. Another must see.

Silver Sands Beach

Silver Sands Beach is one of the nicest beaches on the North Coast just 15 minutes drive east of Falmouth before Duncans. At the hill just before entering Duncans, turn left at the sign saying "Silver Sands" and follow the road downhill for a couple of miles. At the end where the road splits left and right, follow the road to the right. At the guard house a security officer will stop you. Tell him/her that you are going to the beach. Then follow the road to the office/beach house and restaurant and park your car under the large almond tree right near the beach. There are change rooms there, and you can buy lunch at the restaurant and buy drinks at the bar. The sea water at Silver Sands is beautifully crystal clear. They may charge you an entry fee to use the beach facilities.

Crocodile Farm

Visit the crocodile farm a few minutes west of Falmouth. They have a large number of crocodiles, some alligators and reptiles in natural setting. One of the James Bond movies had segments filmed at that location.

River Rafting

Try river rafting on the Martha Brae River. The attraction is located only a few miles inland from Falmouth. Follow Market street through Falmouth and continue on towards the small village of Martha Brae a few miles further. There you should see signs directing you to the starting point of the rafting trip, which will usually Last an hour.

Tours

Phone and enquire at the tour desk at Starfish Hotel about the many half and all day tours to the many attractions in Jamaica.

Restaurants

Glistening Waters

This restaurant is located on the sea side half way between Falmouth and Starfish hotel. This restaurant has been newly renovated and they serve reasonably priced meals. In the evening they provide boat tours on the phospherous lagoon. The phospherous lagoon is one of the most significant one of its kind in the world and is a "must see".

Fisherman's Inn

Fisherman's Inn is also newly renovated with an attractive setting at the back of the building. They serve nice meals in the medium price range. They also will pick you up at the house and bring you back.

Time and Place and Mama's Place

Both Mama's Place and Time and Place are two local restaurants near the Starfish Hotel and both offer reasonably priced meals and drinks. Time and Place is right on the beach with good swimming.

Sports

Horse Back Riding

Horse back riding can be arranged at Bamboo Village next to Starfish hotel or at Good Hope Plantation in the hills beyond Marthat Brae village.

Golf

There are several golf courses within driving reach of Falmouth. A couple of courses are about 20 minutes drive towards Montego Bay - The Half Moon Golf & Country Club and the Ironshore Golf Course. East of Falmouth there are golf courses in Runaway Bay and east of Ocho Rios. Play early in the morning or rent a cart with a canopy to "keep cool" during the game.

Boating

There is a "12 foot" aluminum boat with a 9 HP outboard motor. This boat and motor is available for use only by experienced boaters or you may contact Willy the Fisherman, who can take you around in the boat for a price that Willy will quote you.

Windsurfing

There is windsurfing nearby at Bounty Bay, where Brian and his staff will be happy to rent you the newest in windsurfing equipment.

Transportation

Taxi

Upon your arrival in Montego Bay Airport you can hire a taxi to take you to Falmouth. We can pre-arrange reliable taxi pick-up by Derek for Jam $1,800 (US $30).

Make arrangements with Derek for the return trip to the airport, as well as for any trips around the Island.

Car Rental

If you wish to rent a car, we can assist you with reservation of a rental car, which will be waiting for you at the airport upon your arrival, or can be delivered to Bougain Villa in Falmouth when it is required.

As an example a small Toyota with standard gearshift seating four adults will cost about US $275 per week including 15% GCTax. Prices increase with larger cars, automatic and air-conditioning.

Services

Baby Sitting

Baby sitting may be arranged with the housekeeper.

Food Shopping

Most flights arrive in Montego Bay during the afternoon. Based on your estimated arrival time in Jamaica, we can arrange to have some basic food items purchased and available in the house for you. We will also be able to indicate to the housekeeper, what she should prepare for supper/dinner on the evening of your arrival.

We can also arrange what should be served for breakfast the following morning. A bill will be left with the housekeeper and it will be your responsibility to settle it with the person or supermarket, who extended the credit.

If you wish to include refreshments, we can arrange for that as well. We recommend the local rum, which is excellent and cheap, perhaps some cokes, and the local Red Stripe beer is as good as any North American beer.
